Pre & Post Treatment Information

MASSAGE TREATMENTS

HOW TO PREPARE FOR MY APPOINTMENT

  • Try to stay hydrated before your session and avoid caffeine or alcohol.

  • Eating heavily before your appointment can make you feel bloated and uncomfortable, opt for a light snack instead or leave a 2 hour gap after eating a full meal.

  • Dress in something comfortable, if you are unsure what to wear for your session please don't hesitate to get in touch beforehand. Consider whether you need to remove any jewellery and bring a clip or tie for longer hair.

  • Take a warm (not hot) bath/shower, apply deodorant as normal but avoid applying lotions or oils to the areas of treatment.

  • Stay out of the sun.

  • Communicate your needs and any areas of concern with your therapist, the more information we have the better.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER MY SESSION?

  • Massage can often make you feel fatigued, achy and flu like - this is very normal. Temporary redness and some swelling is also a normal inflammatory healing response.

  • Your body needs lots of water, staying hydrated post massage will help your body recover and assist in flushing out lactic acid, metabolic waste and toxins. Avoiding caffeine and alcohol will help this process as will eating a balanced healthy meal.

  • Avoid sunbathing/sunbeds for 24hours after your treatment.

  • Taking a warm (not hot) salt bath or shower a few hours after your appointment can further boost the circulatory effects of your treatment.

  • A good rest is also very important, we are all busier than ever and it can often be difficult to take time out, listen to your body and try to relax afterwards wherever possible.

  • Gentle stretching is often recommended after massage - but you will be given advice on the time frame that is suitable for you by your therapist, as this will help your body to stay supple between sessions.
